Abstract:Temperature field inside steel ingots is one of the most important parameters during heat- treating processes. The conventional methods cannot make sure the accuracy of the temperature measurement in a long run due to the high temperature. Aiming to solve the problem of overheated steel ingots occurs in a certain steel plant, a three- dimensional heat transfer model for steel ingots was established in unsteady state by method of computational fluid dynamics. The parameters in the CFD model were determined with the operation conditions and some data in a certain steel plant. With the model, temperature distribution inside the steel ingot was analyzed. The results provide a guidance for determination and rectification of the one- dimensional temperature predictive model that is in operation to satisfy the requirement of on- line control and higher accuracy.
